Fall Maintenance Tips
The weather is getting colder, so it’s time to make sure your condo is in tip-top shape before the winter months.
Here are some helpful tips to keep your home warm and cozy and problem free!
1) Check the weather stripping on your windows
Inspect all of the weather stripping seals around your unit’s windows to ensure they are tight and are not letting in any air or water. See any gaps or light coming through? That may mean there is air leaking and it might be time to replace the weather stripping before the winter months to keep your heating costs down.
2) Protect any outdoor furniture
Protect your balcony or terrace furniture from water damage caused by snow/rain over the upcoming winter months. Cover or store your patio furniture in your storage space if you have it until next season.
3) Check your smoke and carbon monoxide alarm detectors
This should be done seasonally. Test them by pressing the ‘test’ button. You should be changing the batteries in both your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors every 6 months at least.
4) Clean out your balcony or terrace drains
If you have a balcony or terrace drains fall is a critical time to ensure these free of loose debris such as garbage or leaves. You may have to do this several times over the fall months to ensure there are no draining issues once the snow starts falling.
5) Check humidity levels
Controlling humidity levels is an important of your condo’s maintenance. Check that your humidistat is set between 30% – 50% and follows humidity guidelines as recommended.
A little preventative work can go a long way in saving you money and ensuring your home keeps running smoothly so you can enjoy the upcoming winter months carefree.
